In conjunction with the Media Department at Hebron University, RCHRS organized a debate between media students and members of the public over the role of the media in creating harmony and civil peace within a society.  Insecurity and violence are on the rise in the Occupied Territories as evidenced by a growing number of assassinations, kidnappings and property destruction campaigns.  As Dr. Saeed Shaheen, a lecturer at Hebron University, explained, one undeniable reason for the increasing instability is the ongoing occupation.  It has created considerable economic hardship for Palestinians and eroded infrastructure and security services that are necessary for maintaining social order.   The conference ended with an open mic session where participants were encouraged to ask questions and engage in fruitful dialogue over the pressing issues facing Palestinians.
