RCHRS Organizes a workshop about citizenship with Birzeit University students

Participants of the workshop organized by Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies acknowledged today the importance of volunteerism among young leaders, starting from enhancing the principles and values of citizenship, human rights, and reaching to the respect of public freedom especially the freedom of expression.

The coordinator and director of the project confirmed that “these workshops revolve around the revision and discussion of the concepts of democracy, human rights, volunteer work, right of expression, women rights and rights of the marginalized people. The target group is Birzeit University students where they’ve learned these significant values and principles that assist in creating a better society. He stated that the beginning of the workshop focused on the conceptual context of citizenship and human rights concepts, discussed its top local and international examples, and finally discussing the methodologies of its application in the Palestinian community despite its current situation.

The participants were divided into discussion and research groups where each group was assigned to write a scientific research about the topics of the workshop, and each research must contain one specific issue that is essential to the society. The students should work on the case by using new methods of scientific research in order to come up with results and recommendations to be discussed and presented in a final academic conference.

The coordinator added “a committee of students was formed to volunteer in the open day where students spend an entire day in a marginalized area and volunteer in local and humane activities that aim at devoting the societal culture of citizenship to reach its best targeted picture”.

At the end of the workshop, participants stressed the magnitude of volunteerism within the values and concepts of citizenship in which each citizen especially the youth must complete towards their country and community, also to enhance their leading role in the society by promoting voluntary initiatives that assist in enhancing youth belonging to their country, and improving the political, civil, social, and cultural life in order to achieve the objectives of citizenship.
